From the large shopping complexes to the tiny stalls of the souqs, eager shoppers will find everything they need and more. The markets (souqs) are a wonderful mixture of scents and sights where items are not marked with traditional price tags; haggling is welcomed and expected. Souq Waqif is the oldest of Doha’s traditional markets, originally used by Bedouin traders as a place to buy and sell meat, wool, milk, and other staples. Today it is a maze of alleyways packed with everything from traditional clothing and incense to camping equipment and hardware. There are textile souqs and gold souqs, as well as the popular Thursday/Friday Souq where clothes, perfumes, shoes, fabric, household goods, and carpets are on offer. The Gold Souq as the name indicates, is the place to buy gold, some of the best value you’ll find in the world.

The City Center Shopping Mall is currently the largest in Doha. It features a cinema complex with 14 screens, a large Carrefour supermarket, a bowling alley, ice rink with it’s own team, kids entertainment zone, food courts with several restaurants and internet cafes. Department stores like Debenhams, high street brands namely Promod, Nine West, Bennetton and much more, are just some of the stores available.

The Landmark Mall is best described as the most Continental of all malls. Expect to find all the high street brands like Zara, Marks & Spencer and MegaMart supermarket, where the Expat community shops for all those European and North American house grocery items.

Hyatt Plaza is best known for its giant shopping cart stationed in the parking lot. Like many other malls includes a supermarket, Giant, kids zone and various restaurants. In addition, features several stores with international brands and a large decoration store.

Royal Plaza is the most recent of all malls to open. This complex features shops only and a few cafes. It has a refined Continental flair with jewelers like Cartier, Mont Blanc and more.

Salam and Blue Salon are department stores specialized in designer labels and fine goods. There are various outlets throughout the city and the sales are always a hit.
